Look up almost any potter’s website and you’ll find mention of form and function. As cliché as it may sound, there’s a reason for it.
Before ceramics, I worked in interior design — a discipline rooted in balance, proportion, materiality, and how people move through space. That foundation continues to shape my approach to ceramics. I think about objects the same way I once thought about rooms: how they live, how they’re used, and how they quietly support daily ritual.
Every piece begins long before it reaches the wheel. It starts with an intentional sketching process — considering how it will be used, where it will sit within the home, and how it will endure over time.
Function is never separate from form. The way a tumbler rests in your hand, the balance of a bowl on the table. The quiet relationship between clay body and glaze.
Intention carries through every stage of making — from the first line drawn to the final firing. My glazes are developed to sit in harmony with the clay, creating an aesthetic marriage between material and movement.
Clay Assembly is grounded in restraint, process, and the belief that everyday objects deserve thoughtful design. I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I enjoy making them.
